ABOUT
Legend? Hardly.
Hey, I'm Nick Gutierrez, a 22 year old college student and random-job working guy from Naples, Florida (where the North goes to die - had to throw that in somewhere). My discovery of podcasting goes something like this:
Oh, here's an article on Yahoo about some new technology. Hm. Lots of tech-speak, capitalized letters and acronyms and stuff. They link to wikipedia, let's see what they say it is. Oh, ok, I think I get it now.
*listens to a few shows*
Hey, this isn't bad. And, you know, the way they describe it, it might not be all that complicated to do after all. It might even be fun. Let's try it!
Six months later, I finally launched my own podcast, which is still very much in its infancy. I described in my (rather horrible-sounding) first episode how I see podsafe music as creating the middle class of the music industry, something which it has been sorely lacking, and will have the result of changing a whole bunch of business models. I think a good example of this is Engine Company Records. They sell their music over the internet almost exclusively, so what you have is both enhanced access to the listener - the impact of which is almost certainly magnified by podcasting - and the effect of keeping prices down by eliminating record stores. And while we could see a few podsafe artists become multi-platinum record selling artists, the far more likely scenario for a truly talented podsafe band is a pretty consistent and comfortable status among the industry's "middle class" - which isn't a bad place to be at all.
Ok, enough of the rant.
